Siamese cats

Anyone who owns a Siamese could tell you they live up to their majestic heritage, and truly are a special breed. Siamese cats have a presence about them, something you can't miss when you walk in the room.

With their long slim line bodies, striking faces and stunning large ears, Siamese have become one of the most popular cats in existence today. They are intelligent, loving and very affectionate to all, and keep you entertained in a way that no one else would be able to do.

My first experience with Siamese was my beautiful breeding girl Mushu, who was a seal colourpoint. Mushu was like a little person, very loving and within days had learnt what I meant when I asked her to say hello, greeting me back with a meow and full of purrs.

Siamese are a great breed for children, or busy households as they really do suffer from that curiosity bug, and love to be involved in everything. They are a very playful breed, and are very adaptable to other breeds of cats, and dogs, as long as they have been accustomed to them first.

Although they are loving, they can also become quite possessive of their owners and, due to them being so intelligent often try to rule the roost, so they do need the occasional reminder of who's boss. They are great for people who are in need of companionship, especially as they are so talkative, I have been known to hold a full conversation with Mushu, much to the delight of the rest of the family.

Siamese come in many colours, especially since the acceptance of outcrosses between the Siamese and Orientals. A few colours they come in are blue (slate gray), seal (dark brown), chocolate (milk chocolate), lilac (mushroom blue), cinnamon (light brown) and fawn (beige) and this is just to name a few!

Patterns in Siamese cats usually stop at colourpoint (colour on ears, face and paws), however recently a new pattern of Bi colour (a white inverted v on the face and white front and back paws) has been developed which in my opinion gives the Siamese face a real boost. Siamese can also be found in tabby and tortie patterns, tabby where they have tiger stripes on their faces and tortie which is a mixture of the above colours.

No matter what colour you look for with a Siamese, you can't help but fall in love with their amazing and regal “purrsonalities”.
