Chihuahuas
Chihuahuas are wonderful little dogs who, over the years, have received often unfair, bad press. They are not yappy, snappy or aggressive unless they have been treated unfairly or are afraid of something. In fact chihuahuas are very much lap dogs, who strive for companionship and affection from their owners, and who show a loyalty that is unmatched.
The chihuahua is a very small dog, usually between 4 and 6 lbs., with a big personality. Each chihuahua is different, but special in its own way, making great companions for well mannered children, and in particular people who live alone and need something they can love and cherish.
Originally chihuahuas were bred to run with hunters as they were small enough to go down the fox holes or other holes created by animals being chased, they are incredibly fast though, and would most likely catch prey before it had chance to get away making them excellent at games in the park with children such as fetch.
Chihuahuas come in a huge range of colours, but only 3 patterns: solid (colour all over), Pari (2 colours in any form) and tricolour (3 colours in any form).
They should always have an apple-dome head, this where the head is rounded like an apple, with the snout sticking out at a right angle, known as the stop. The eyes should be set in the face and not bulging as is often the image drawn to mind when we think of chihuahuas.
Regardless of whether you like the look of chihuahuas or not, you can't judge them until you have experienced them for yourself and I guarantee you will never look back!
